This amazing initiative in partnership with the Parkdale Food Centre is to provide at- risk and/or marginalized youth and young people with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities working both at the farm and the Food Centre. Young people work in the farm gardens, take care of the animals, market and sell produce and work with The Parkdale Food Centre chef to gain food preparation and kitchen skills. This is not simply a job as we provide meaningful engagement so that when the youth are having a bad day we can be there to offer the support they need with the focus on problem solving, adapting as well as managing frustrations. Parkdale also offers a Youth Engagement Worker who will connect with the youth on success planning and assisting them in transitioning to long term employment or educational/training opportunities. This initiative is not possible without the support of the Ottawa Community Foundation and the New Leaf Community Challenge. Other partners include Youth Services Bureau, Operation Come Home and National Capital Commission. Continue to follow our success on twitter, instagram and Facebook.
